Guiding Quotes
Throughout all of the pages I have added quotes from a numerous of famous and not so famous people. I find quotes to encompass so much in so little. Like this capstone project, capturing so much of what has taken place over the past 2-1/2 years, the quotes help set the tone for each of the pages in just a few words. Each set of quotes have meaning that is directly related to each page.
The Guided Tour
Sit back and relax while you are taken on quick tour of what you will find throughout this portfolio. When watching this, think of a time when you used to day dream about what you wanted to be when you grew up, how to make the lawnmower into a Go- Kart, add cardboard wings to your bike and zoom down the hill as fast as you could, or try to re-wire the old radio in hopes of communicating with someone or something from outer space. It seemed almost impossible, but at the same time it didn't stop us from dreaming about it.
The PurposeThe purpose of this E-portfolio is to bring together 2-1/2 years of looking at and experiencing all things related to educational technology in the Masters of Educational Technology (MET) at UBC. This research capstone project also satisfies the requirements found in the Teacher Qualifications Service (TQS) in British Columbia.
In building this capstone project, I am drawing upon Moon's (2001) work on personal development planning and how reflections are based on my thinking changing from more than just the personal experiences, but ideas backed by theory. I particular found myself relating to the work of David Kolb's cycle of experiential learning (Moon, 2001). Much of his cycle is based on experiential learning and this suits my own way of learning and working with staff and students in my profession. I have always been a proponent of using technology in the classroom, but this program has allowed me see the theory behind just the practical use with staff and students. This program has also shown me that the need for students of all ages begin using these tools so they are prepared for the future. The MET has allowed me ask questions, collaborate with peers all over the world, explore new concepts in the field of technology, play with tools that I've never tried before, problem solve on my own and with others, come up with elaborate learning modules that demonstrate the new way of thinking, and the need to continue asking more questions because there is never only one answer. To me, this program modeled how I want my students and staff to explore learning with themselves and their classes. |
The AudienceMy audience will compose of my instructors, my MET peers, staff I work with, and my administrator colleagues. These are all important people that need to see the work that is being done out there in the field of educational technology. I am hoping this capstone e-portfolio can be window into the potential that is available to the students we serve, with the hopes of preparing them for the future. We as educators have a duty to ensure we are giving our students the best opportunity to succeed in the future.
